About ACI

Alternative Care Initiatives Uganda (ACI) is a registered, national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was established in 2013, to support the Ugandan government and other Civil Society Organisations to implement the Alternative Care Framework, which seeks family-based solutions for Ugandan children outside of parental care.

ACI has also been involved in investigating, exposing and helping to get justice for children and families that have been affected by different types of exploitation, such as child trafficking, unethical adoption and sexual abuse by both national and international sexual predators, among other things.

On top of that, ACI worked with the Ugandan government to establish the National Alternative Care Implementation Unit, a department within the government that monitors and regulates childcare services across the country.
